Abstract
860,787. Mineral mining machines. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. March 27, 1958 [April 9, 1957], No. 11458/57. Class 68(1). To enable re-tensioning of an endless cutter chain circulating about a jib to take place as wear occurs there is provided between a jib frame 21 and the support bar 20 therefore a plungercylinder unit 34, 31 that can be expanded and contracted as desired by pumping grease into and releasing grease from the cylinder. To expand the unit 34, 31 grease is pumped through a grease nipple 42 screwed into a non-return valve 41 in a passage 39, 38, 37 extending through the support bar 20. To contract the unit, the valve 41 is removed so that the grease can return from the cylinder 31 as the unit contracts when tension is put on the cutter chain. The valve 41 and nipple 42 are normally protected by a cap 44. Expansion of the unit is limited by a passage 50, 51 extending through the rear portion of the plunger. Outward movement of the plunger ceases when the passage ports in the side of the plunger clear the cylinder.
