Abstract
860,493. Mixing appliances. FORSTER, H. A. R. Aug. 12, 1959 [Sept. 1, 1958], No. 28057/58. Class 86 Materials are mixed and agitated within a container which is rotated on its own axis and on an axis at right angles to the first axis. The container 12 is rotated within a. banjo 11 which itself is rotated about a diameter, the banjo being carried by a gear casing 2 mounted on a base 1 and carrying a motor 7 which effects both rotations. The container 12 is secured by positioning lugs 12a in a groove 17d in a ring 17b, the wall 17e of the groove being gapped to admit the lugs which are clamped, after turning the container to move the lugs away from the gaps, by screws 18. The ring 17b is rigidly secured to a ring 17a so that together they may be journalled by ball bearings 15, 16 in the banjo 11. A bevel pinion 19 engages teeth 17c on the ring 17b to rotate the container 12 on its own axis, and the banjo, which is formed with a journal portion 11a is rotated on the axis of the shaft 20. The drive from the motor is through chain and sprocket 9, 29 and gear wheels 27, 30, 31, 38. The container rotates at a slightly greater speed than the banjo, e.g. 43 RPM and 33 RPM respectively. A rod 40 secured by nuts 43 between a fixed bottom 12b and a removable cover 12c may carry two strips 44, held between spacing tubes 45, 46, 47 to act as paddles. The container 12 may be of transparent plastic. The machine may be used for mixing paint in tins or plastic bottles, the receptacle 12 being then replaced by an attachment to hold the tin or bottle.
