Abstract
860,451. Travelling wave tubes. MULLARD Ltd. July 17, 1959, No. 24650/59. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XXII] A travelling wave tube comprises an apertured metal disc D having a circular flange E and a helix having a main delay line section C, a quarter wave matching section B and a plurality of closely wound helical turns (in contact) which are brazed together to form a hollow cylinder which is engaged at one end by flange E and is brazed thereto thus locating the disc relative to the cylinder. The end section A of the tungsten wire helix and the inner surface of the flange of the disc are plated with gold, or less preferably, with copper, nickel or platinum or alloys thereof, e.g. by electroplating, or less preferably are painted with a colloidal suspension of gold. The helix may be glazed. The flanged metal disc is made of copper-nickel alloy. A prior art arrangement in which a tungsten wire helix has a #/4 impedance matching section of about one third of a turn at one end which is spot welded at its free end to a metal tube of copper nickel alloy is referred to. Specification 797,352 is referred to.
