Abstract

A finish remover composition comprises methylene chloride and a minor proportion sufficient to improve the stripping ability, of benzene sulphonic acid, an alkyl benzene sulphonic acid, or mixtures thereof. Suitable alkyl benzene sulphonic acids are those wherein the alkyl group or groups contain from 1 to 18 carbon atoms per molecule, such as ethyl benzene-, hexyl benzene-, dodecyl benzene-, and octadecyl benzene-sulphonic acid, xylene sulphonic acid, methyl isopropyl benzene-, diethyl benzene-, or methyl-dodecyl-benzene-sulphonic acid. Other solvents such as ethanol, hexanol, decanol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, ethylene glycol monomethyl, monoethyl or dimethyl ether, diethylene glycol monoethyl or dimethyl ether, ethyl acetate, acetone, dioxane, or petroleum ether may be present. The composition may include thickeners such as methyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, bentonite or casein, and evaporation retarders such as paraffin wax.
