860,121. Optical glass compositions. PILKINGTON BROS. Ltd., MILNE, A. J., and PARRY, R. J. Nov. 4, 1958 [Nov. 29, 1957], No. 37367/57. Class 56. An optical glass contains in weight per cent. GeO 2 20 to 50 ; La 2 O 3 30 to 50 ; BaO 0 to 15 ; B 2 O 3 0 to 10 ; Ta 2 O 5 0 to 30 and Nb 2 O 5 0 to 30. In addition up to 20% of oxides of one or more of the following may be added : Li, Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Zn, Cd, Si, Ti, Zr, Th, Pb, Al, As and Sb, preferably not more than 5 %. Specific examples are given. The glasses have refractive indices Nd of from 1À80 to 1À94 and V-value-of from 32 to 43.
