860,080. Variable pitch propellers. McNAB, N. S. Oct. 26, 1959 [Oct. 28, 1958], No. 34486/58. Class 114. Adjusting means for the blades of variable-pitch pro pellers or the like having hubs 2 bored for reception of a shaft 6 and secured by a nut 5 screwed on the shaft and having blades 12 with two operating pins 15, 17 for adjusting the pitch of the blades comprises a hydraulic cylinder 1 and piston 3 constituting two movable elements supported by the propeller shaft and displaceable in opposite directions by pressure fluid, each element having auxiliary members 13, 18 and linkage 14, 19 for transmitting two co-acting forces developed by pressure fluid in the cylinder to said blade adjusting pins 15, 17, two to each blade positioned diametrically opposite one another under the base member 16 of each blade. In an arrangement for a large propeller, Fig. 3, the cylinder 1a is secured to a tubular member 26 slidable in the hollow propeller shaft 6, and the piston 3a is secured to a rod 32 slidable in the member 26. The tubular member 26 carries a collar 27 having an arm 28 coupled by a link 29 to adjusting pin 30 on the propeller blade, The rod 32 carries a collar 33 having an arm 34 coupled to the other adjusting pin 31, on the blade.
