916,310. Axial flow turbines and compressors. SULZER FRERES S.A. Aug. 9, 1960 [Aug. 20, 1959], No. 27582/60. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). In a mechanism for adjusting the rotor blades of at least one stage of an axial flow turbine or compressor during operation, two actuating pistons 1, 2, mounted in a common stationary cylinder 3 are reciprocally movable relative to each other and are articulated by means of linkages to two-armed lovers 13, each of which is connected to a blade spindle 14. One arm of each lever is connected to one of the pistons and the other to the other piston. Pressurized oil is fed to the stationary cylinder 3 and the motions of the pistons 1, 2 are transmitted to two plates 7, 8 which may be flat, conical or domed. A rod 9 is provided on the plate 7 for each blade 15 and corresponding rods 10 are provided on the plate 8, the rods being attached to either end of a lever 13 by means of pins 11, 12 respectively. The pins are attached to the rods by screws and nuts and to the levers by ball joints. The mechanism may be used in multi-stage machines in which case rotor hub 16 and all corresponding hubs have apertures through which the extended rods 9, 10 pass. The piston areas may differ if one piston has to overcome a greater resistance than the other.
