Abstract

859,206. Coating by vapour deposition. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Aug. 14, 1958 [Aug. 20, 1957], No. 26270/57. Class 82(2) [Also in Group XL(a)] A uranium rod 10 is coated by vapour deposition with niobium 0.1 to 0.2 microns thick before insertion in an aluminium sheath. The rod 10 is rotated by a motordriven magnet 19 during coating. A number of parallel connected tantalum heaters 21 are used, each heater being of U-shaped cross-section and carrying a strip 22 of niobium. After two hours heating the average composition of the coating is 50% Nb, 50% Ta. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 790,334.
