Abstract
859,039. Casting composite articles; making soldering-irons. THUILLIER, M. C. A. Aug. 12, 1959 [Sept. 4, 1958], No. 27525/59. Classes 83 (1), 83 (2) and 83 (4). Soldering-iron bits are made by forming a crucible 1 of relatively high-melting-point metal such as steel, introducing in solid state the core-metal 2 of relatively low-melting-point, such as silver, heating the crucible to a temperature near its melting-point to effect complete fusion of the core, and then cooling the assembly. The crucible may be initially made to its required finished shape, or the assembly may be subsequently shaped by drawing, moulding, stamping &c., and finally riveted to a copper holder 6. An interposed steel socket 7 protects the heating-element from attack by the solder. Pressure-casting of a jacket around a copper core, and filling a steel jacket with molten silver, copper, brass, aluminium, magnesium &c. is stated to be known. German Specification 918,911 and French Specification 149,721 are referred to.
