Abstract

Discharge prints are produced on linear aromatic polyester textiles by applying to the predyed textile a discharge paste containing a reducing agent and anthraquinone, and then drying and steaming. Enhanced effects are obtained by subsequently subjecting the prints to a short heat-treatment at 130 DEG -230 DEG C. Coloured discharge prints are obtained by adding a vat dyestuff to the discharge paste. Suitable reducing agents sodium or zinc formaldehydesulphoxylate or thiourea dioxide. The paste may also contain thickeners, sodium benzyl-sulphanilate, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, egg albumen, urea and optical brightening agents. In examples, polyethylene glycol terephthalate fabrics dyed with azo dyestuffs are discharge printed, in some cases the discharge paste containing vat dyestuffs which are reduced by the steaming operation and subsequently oxidised.
