Abstract

<PICT:0858745/III/1> A machine for applying a lining of, e.g. cementitious material to a pipe, is arranged to be progressed through the pipe and comprises a rotatable distributer head 11, motor means 12 for rotating the head at high speed, a conduit 13 for receiving fluent lining material from a source outside the pipe and feeding it to the head, and at least one trowel member 15, 15A driven at a slow speed from the motor 12 through a speed reducing drive unit 25. The unit 25 comprises a stationery sun spool 27 mounted on an extension piece 32 secured to the conduit 13, one or more planet spools 28 on spindles 33 carried by the head 11, and an output sun spool 29 rotatable on the extension 32 and driving the trowel members. The planet spools are connected with the stationary sun spool by endless belts 30, and drive the output sun spool by belts 31; the necessary speed reduction may be obtained by making unequal the diameters of the sun spools, or of the two parts of the planet spools connected with them. The trowel members 15, 15A comprise blades mounted on arms 38, 38A extending from spring-ringed hubs 39, 39A on spindles 40, 40A on a plate 42 fixed to a hub 36 which is integral with the sun spool 29. The radial position of the trowel blades is controlled by a rod 43 on which is mounted a plate 45 connected by cords, running over pulleys (not shown) to pulleys 47 on the hubs 39, 39A. Lining material is introduced into the conduit 13 and passes through slots 50 into the head 11 which is mounted on the hollow shaft 43 of the motor 12 and comprises a number of radial plates 20, having serrated edges, and clamped between endplates 21, 22. The head 11 distributes the material on to the pipe by centrifugal force, and it is smoothed by the relatively slowly rotating trowels 37, 37A.
