In a buffer assembly for a reciprocating hammer 23 Fig. 1 of a power tool &c. a plastic compression member 17 of hard rubber &c. is enclosed within a tube 10 having longitudinal slits 11 to permit radial expansion and transmission of forces to a tension ring 26 of bonded glass fibre. The member 17 is retained within the tube 10 by a threaded end cap 13 and spacer 16. Liners 20, 21 are inserted under the ring 26 and in the bore 18 for the hammer head 22, to prevent chafing.
