[Also in Group XXVI] An expander-spacer ring for the scraper rings of a piston oil-control ring (see Group XXVI) comprising U-shaped spacers 9 integrally connected by arcuate spring elements 10 is made from spring-steel band 12 by punching recesses 13 at a first station to provide a flatspacer blank 9 and a flat-spring blank 10, bending the spacer 9 at a second station and bending the spring element 10 at a third station, the band being fed between operations a distance equal to the total length of a flat spring element 10 and a spacer 9.
