857,626. Bearings. EISENWERK ROTHE ERDE G.m.b.H. Dec. 22, 1958 [Dec. 21, 1957], No. 41370/58. Class 12 (1). A rotary joint capable of withstanding high axial pressures comprises a number of wire race ball-bearings 4... 7 mounted one above the other and offset at an inclination relative to one another. The inner bearing sleeve 8 accommodating, for example, a boring rod, has a flange 81 and shoulders 9, 10 which transmit the downward load to the bearings 5, 6, 7, the outer support rings 3 of which are respectively carried on shoulders 12 formed within the outer bearing sleeve 15 and on a base ring 13 bolted to the outer sleeve. Upward loads are taken by the bearing 4. The downward load is automatically distributed evenly between the bearings 5, 6, 7 by the rolling of ball-raceways into the respective bearing wires. The support rings 3 have their outer surfaces sloped so that oil can flow through the bearings in succession. In a modification the single bearings are replaced by multi-row bearings.
