Abstract
856,907. Photographic processing. KODAK Ltd. May 8, 1959 [May 12, 1958], No. 15953/59. Class 98(2) An acid hardener-fixing solution having a high proportion of sulphite relative to the hypo and with which less hypo is retained in films and papers for a given amount of washing comprises a hardening agent for gelatin, an acid, 0À25 to 1À6 moles of anhydrous alkali metal or ammonium thiosulphate (equivalent to 40 to 250 grams anhydrous hypo) and 0À6 to 1À5 moles of sulphite per mole of thiosulphate per litre, the sulphite including bisulphite if desired and of which 2 moles are calculated as equivalent to 1 mole of sulphite. Potassium alum, ammonium alum and aluminium chloride are quoted as hardening agents, the acid is usually acetic; and the tetrasodium salt of ethylene-diamine tetracetic acid as sequestering agent as for calcium, copper and iron may be included in the solution. Five examples present the washing results using various hypo/sulphite ratios in comparison with such when using the usual hardener-fixing solutions having about 5 or 10 times as much hypo as sulphite.
