Abstract

A growth-accelerating feed composition comprises a tetracycline-type antibiotic and terephthalic acid; preferred proportions are between 0,001 and 0,1 part of the antibiotic and between 0,05 and 2,0 parts of the terephthalic acid per 100 parts by weight of feed. The expression "tetracycline-type antibiotic" includes oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline, bromtetracycline, tetracycline and their antibiotically-active salts. Examples I and III demonstrate that a greater proportion of the antibiotic is absorbed in the blood of chickens when the terephthalic acid is included.ALSO:A therapeutically effective composition comprises a tetracycline-type antibiotic and terephthalic acid; preferred proportions for an animal feed are between 0,001 and 0,1 part of the antibiotic and between 0,05 and 2,0 parts of the terephthalic acid per 100 parts by weight of feed. The expression "tetracycline-type antibiotic" includes oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline brom tetracycline, tetracycline and their antibiotically-active salts, many being specified.
