Abstract

856,270. Screwdrivers. LAVIETES, R. P. April 16, 1959, No. 12944/59. Class 61. A multiple blade screwdriver comprises a tubular handle 1 adapted to receive a number of tool blades 27, 28, 29 which are pivotally mounted between a pair of slide plate of segmental cross-section which form a blade holder 23 slidable from the handle to an extended position in which a required blade may be opened to its operative position and a ratchet drive mounted at the end of the handle including a hand grip 7 carried by a handle member 4 mounted to turn about the axis of the handle 1. The hand grip 7 is rotatably mounted on a spindle 5 which is fixed to the ratchet block 2 by a traverse pin 18 which passes through the handle member 4. A retractable, spring pressed ratchet pin 10 mounted in the handle member 4 is adapted to co-operate with the sides of radial grooves 8 formed in the ratchet block 2. The ratchet pin has at its extremity a straight longitudinal side 16 and an inclined longitudinal side 17 which co-operate with the shoulders of the radial grooves to provide a one way ratchet drive. To reverse the direction of the ratchet drive the pin is turned through 180 degrees by the finger grip 12. The blade holder 23 is slidably received in the tubular handle 1 in an opening of corresponding shape having two opposite flat sides 19 and two opposite convex sides 21, a pair of shoulders 20 being provided on the inside of the handle near the opening. A U-shaped spring 33 attached to the inner end of the blade holder 23 has hooked ends 34 which engage the shoulders 20.
