Abstract

855,941. Switching systems; charging and discharging capacitors. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Sept. 5, 1958 [Sept. 9, 1957], No. 28592/58. Class 38 (4). A lamp control circuit supplies, in response to an input signal, cyclically recurring electrical pulses to a lamp, which on ignition delivers an output signal which terminates the input signal. A positive input signal from say a computor is applied to the grid 10 of a valve T1 which conducts, energizing a relay coil R1 which closes a pair of contacts a connecting a capacitor 12 to a pulse transformer primary winding 13, the secondary winding 15 of which is connected to the ignition electrode of the lamp L. If the lamp L flashes, a capacitor 16 is discharged through the lamp causing a potential to appear at a terminal 18 which is fed back to the computer which removes the input signal. If the lamp does not flash, a capacitor 19 discharging at the same time through another pair of contacts b extinguishes normally conducting neon tubes 23 connected to the control grid 21 of a valve 22 turning it off; which removes the screen potential from a grid 24 of the valve T1 turning this off also, releasing the relay R1 which allows capacitor 19 to recharge and hence re-energize the relay R1 ab through conduction of valves 22, T1, this sequence being repeated until the lamp L flashes, causing the input signal to be removed.
