855,340. Electric measuring devices. BAIRD & TATLOCK (LONDON) Ltd., and CHAPMAN, D. R. Sept. 14, 1956 [June 16, 1955], No. 17445/55. Class 37. In apparatus for metering quantities of a plurality of liquids which are to be mixed together; e.g. for chemical reaction, the liquids which are admitted through electro-magnetically operated valves 3; 4, pass down a double-walled tube 5 and rise in a second tube 9 concentrically surrounding tube 5 to vary the capacitance at probes 17, 18, 19, which are connected in a sequencing circuit controlling the valves 3, 4. The space between the walls of tube 5 is filled with mercury which forms an electrostatic screen which may be earthed. In operation, displaced gas escapes through an exhaust valve 16 which is, however, closed when gas is being admitted through a valve 15. After the reaction products have been drawn off through exhaust valves 11, 12, the apparatus is flushed with washing liquid through a spray valve 20.
