Abstract
855,194. Tankers. GOTAVERKEN A.B. March 12, 1957 [June 7, 1956], No. 8079/57. Class 113. A ship's hull is divided by longitudinal bulkheads, e.g. a longitudinal central bulkhead 14, and transverse bulkheads arranged at an inclination to the longitudinal central plane of the ship and so disposed that their rear ends are connected to the longitudinal bulkhead 14 and their forward ends to the hull 10 to form tank compartments which are parallelograms in plan. The angle of inclination of the transverse bulkhead with the longitudinal bulkhead may be such that a plane perpendicular to the middle-line plane on each side of the longitudinal bulkhead will traverse at least two tank coinpartments. Transverse perforated plates or webs 26 are provided and may extend parallel on one side of the middle-line plane to the transverse bulkheads on the other side ; the spacing may be such that a bulkhead 24 and web 26 meet adjacent the hull as indicated at 28. Two tunnels 16 and 18 may be provided in the longitudinal bulkhead as shown in Fig. 4 the lower accommodating cargo distributing pipes having valves and branch pipes which are led to the rearmost part of the compartments while the upper tunnel provides a walkway 20, and space for arranging various ship's services, the ceiling being flush with the upper deck. The bulkheads may be constructed with corrugations extending horitontally.
