Abstract
855,046. Stowing liquefied gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd., [formerly CONSTOCK INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd.]..Jan. 12, 1959 [Jan. 16, 1958], No. 1111/59. Class 8(2). Recovering of gas e.g. methane boiled off from the liquid phase by inflow of ambient heat into each of a plurality of storage tanks 10 is effected by conducting gas by a blower 16 through a line 14 and a condenser 17 located in a bath 19 of colder liquid at a temperature between the boiling and freezing points of the stored liquefied gas ; the so condensed liquid methane being returned through a line 18 to the gas space 13 of the storage tank 10. The said colder liquid may comprise helium, nitrogen, air or the stored gas in which case it is maintained at a pressure below that of the storage tank 10. Recondensing of vapour of the colder liquid 21 is effected by forcing it by a compressor 29 through a refrigerant bath 24 and an expansion valve 28.
