Abstract
854,536. Burners. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., J. Aug. 20, 1959 [May 23, 1958], No. 16600/58. Class 75(1). Fuel burning apparatus comprises a cylindrical casing 6 having a peripheral inlet 10 for the admission of combustion air, a burner tube 11 at the centre of the casing which is axially movable between operative and inoperative positions, a swirler 13 at the inner end of the burner tube, and shutter 17 movable axially relative to the inlet between an open and a closed position and an axially movable tube 14 surrounding the burner tube and carrying the shutter, the swirler incorporating means whereby it is automatically disconnected from the burner tube and attached to the tube 14 by angular movement of the burner tube when the tubes are in one relative position. To disengage the burner tube from the swirler a gland 25 is removed from one end of the tube which is moved axially beyond the inoperative position until the handle 18 engages an abutment 26. Pins 23 on a boss 15 having a spider carrying the shutter 17 align with branch grooves in a sleeve 19 on the swirler. Rotating the burner tube causes pins 20 on the sleeve to move along L-shaped grooves 21 in the burner tube until the sleeve rotates moving the pins 23 along the grooves where they are held by spring pressed plungers. The handle being then free from the abutment the burner tube moves axially to disengage the swirler which is held by the pins 28 on the shutter boss. Specification 854,535 is referred to.
