Abstract

854,037. Batch mixing machines. REIFFEN, E. A. April 10, 1959 [April 23, 1958], No. 12128/59. Class 86 A batch mixing machine has a horizontal cylindrical container 1 with a rotatable axial spindle 2 having multi-armed beaters or toothed wheels 3 which rotate between rows of bars 5; the bars extend round the spindle through an angle which is less than 120 degrees. The intrusion into the container of each row of bars may be adjusted by racks 7 and pinions 8 operated by a shaft 9; the container may be connected on collars 11 and angularly adjusted as by a worm and worm wheel 12. The beating arms are flat on one face and radiused on the other so that their action varies with direction of rotation (see Fig. 5, not shown). A jacket for heating or cooling is described together with a method of mounting the bars in pairs in an insert which enables them to be easily changed, and their activation adjusted by a screw spindle (see Fig. 6, not shown).
