Abstract
853,367. Carrying liquefied gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd., [formerly CONSTOCK INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd.]. June 8, 1959 [June 24, 1958], No. 19586/59. Class 113. [Also in Group XXVIII] A flat-bottomed liquefied gas e.g., methane transportation tank 18, Fig. 1, is supported on the floor 24 of a heat insulation lined hold space 15 of a ship 10 so as to allow of thermal expansion and contraction but to prevent lateral displacement due to rolling of the ship by engagement of longitudinally spaced tongues 30, 30a, Fig. 3, projecting down from the longitudinal centre line of the tank bottom with corresponding slots 26, 28 cut in a wooden block 34 set in the floor 24. The width of each slot is just sufficient to accommodate the corresponding tongue, the length of the central slot 28 is equal to that of the central tongue 30a but the lengths of the remaining slots 26 increases so as to provide expansion and contraction spaces 32. Similar tongues projecting up from the tank top engage corresponding slots in the insulation lining. The latter comprises balsa wood 22 and glass wool 16.
