Abstract
The invention comprises isoindolines of the formula : <FORM:0853237/IV(b)/1> where Hal is a halogen atom, R is hydrogen, an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical and n is 3 or 4. They are made by reacting a 2-cyano-benzoic acid ester containing 3 or 4 halogen substituents in the benzene ring with ammonia, an alkali-metal amide or a primary amine of the aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic series. Examples are given. The compounds are dyestuff intermediates. Specification 833,548 is referred to.ALSO:Coloured condensation products are made by reacting a 2-cyanobenzoic acid ester containing 3 or 4 halogen substituents in the benzene nucleus with ammonia, an alkali-metal amide or a primary amino and condensing the 3- iminoisoindoline -1- one obtained with a poly-primary amino compound of the homo- or hetero-cyclic aromatic series or hydrazino in the proportion of a molecular equivalent of the isoindoline for every primary amino group in the amine. The products are yellow, orange and red pigments and may be used for colouring plastics. Specification 833,548 is referred to.
