A viscometer comprises a steel rod a held at one end in a clamp k and vibrated at about its natural frequency by an electromagnet c which is supplied at 50 c/s., the reed being dipped into the test liquid b, as described an unsaturated polyester resin undergoing a polymerization process, to a depth of from 1 to 10 mm., and the amplitude of vibration of the reed being sensed by coils wound on magnets d, e, in the field of which the reed vibrates. The output signal is rectified and fed to a recorder-type measuring system m s . It is stated that the polyester may be kept at a constant temperature between 0‹ C. and 100‹ C.
