Abstract
903,004. Fatigue testing. ELEKTROPODNIK H.L. MESTA PRAHY. March 31, 1959 [April 9, 1958], No. 10914/59. Classes 106 (2) and 106 (4). The test specimen, e.g. a turbine blade 1, is clamped to the free end 41 of an elongated carrier 4 rigidly fixed at its other end 42 to a base 5, and a driving electromagnet 6, disposed adjacent the free end 41, is energized by an alternating current controlled by a pick-up 8 carried at the free end of the carrier 4 and engageable with the test specimen at a point spaced from the clamping means 2 to generate a control voltage corresponding to the amplitude of movement of the specimen. The control voltage is fed into the energizing circuit (not shown) of the electromagnet through an amplifier 9 and a phase shifter. The electromagnet 6 induces vibrations of the specimen of such magnitude that the pick-up 8 transmits signals which after amplification at 9 are used to further vibrate the specimen to maintain the resonant frequency and compensate for external influences such as temperature and fatigue of the material of the carrier 4. If the carrier is of non-magnetic material an insert 7 of iron is provided. The pick-up 8 also measures the amplitude and frequency of the vibrations.
