Abstract
1,126,450. Measuring fluid density electrically. H. MAIHAK A.G. Nov.30, 1966 [Nov. 30, 19651, No. 53643/66. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G3] The density of a fluid is measured by the natural frequency of oscillation of a tube filled with the fluid. The tube 11 (Fig. 2), clamped at 12, 13 and supplied with ferromagnetic parts 14, forms the tuning member of an electronic oscillator 17. The frequency may be measured directly, or by comparison with that of a similar reference oscillating tube 21. In an alternative arrangement coil 15 is fed with A. C. at approximately half-amplitude resonance frequency, and the amplitude of vibration measured by the pick-up signal in coil 16. The pick-up signal may be used to energize a servosystem which alters the natural frequency of tube 11 by e.g. a measured adjustment to a spring bias, or controls the density to a constant value by adjustment of the density of the fluid before it is fed into tube 11. The tubes 11, 21 may be other than straight, e.g. U-shaped.
