Abstract
849,813. Thrashing machines. McBAIN, A. Jan. 25, 1957 [Jan. 26, 1956; April 13, 1956], Nos. 2618/56 and 11394/56. Class 6(3). Apparatus for separating the seeds of legumes from their pods, comprises a floating conveyer 3 feeding, for example, pea vines to a beater and concave arrangement comprising a plurality of rotating drums 4 formed on their surfaces with beater bars 5 and cooperating with a member 6 which takes the form of a series of openwork troughs 7. The released peas and any smaller pieces of waste material fall through the openings in the troughs 7 on to a conveyer 8 which carries them to the rear of the apparatus and discharges them on to the upper of two conveyers 10 and 11. The operative runs of the conveyers 10, 11 move upwardly to separate the peas, which roll downwardly, from the waste material, which is discharged from the rear of the apparatus. This separation is further assisted by blowing air into the space between the conveyers 10 and 11 from a blower 9. The separated peas are carried to a hopper 13 by an elevator 12, whilst the stripped vines and pods are moved along the member 6 to the rear of the apparatus by the beaters 5.
