Abstract
849,690. Automatic voltage control systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 20, 1958 [Nov. 1, 1957], No. 34172/57. Class 38 (4). To prevent an A.C. machine 1 falling out of step, the excitation is increased by means of a magnetic amplifier when the phase angle between the rotor and rotating field exceeds a predetermined amount. The output from an A.C. permanent magnet generator 20 attached to the rotor is compared in phase with a voltage representative of the stator voltage across a resistor 19, the resultant voltage being applied together with a voltage from transformer secondary winding 10 through rectifiers 21, 12, respectively, to the signal winding 13 of a magnetic amplifier 14. The amplifier output is biased by a blocking rectifier 23 and a voltage derived from a rectifier 22, so that when the output exceeds the bias voltage a second control winding 7 assisting the normal control winding 6 of an automatic voltage regulator 5 increases the excitation of the machine. The magnetic amplifier may be of the auto-excited type.
