Abstract
849,681. Weighing apparatus. SKIP COMPAGNIE G.m.b.H. Sept. 26, 1957 [Sept. 26, 1956], No. 30282/57. Class 143 [Also in Group XXX] A bin 1 (Fig. 1) in which charges of predetermined volume are measured automatically and discharged into the skip (not shown) of a mine shaft skip winding plant, incorporates an automatic feed weigher which, in the event of any charge being below a predetermined minimum weight, overrides the volumetrically controlled cut off mechanism and continues feeding until the predetermined weight is attained. The volumetric measuring device comprises a rotary cam operated switch 6 which is driven through reduction gearing by belt 3, and is arranged to cut out the conveyer driving motor at the completion of one revolution of the switch cam shaft. This shaft also carries further cams which, as the bin fills, lower anti-breakage flaps 8a, 8b. The bin is supported on pressure responsive cells 9 which, when the weight of the contents of the bin is below a predetermined value, operate contacts (Fig. 3 not shown) which bridge switch 6 and thereby maintain the feed until cells 9 detect the predetermined weight and stop the belt 3. In a modification (Fig. 2) the volumetric measuring device comprises a plate 18 which is moved down a bin 11 by an endless chain 15 and which is stopped and a gate 13 closed when an abutment on the chain engages a switch 16 set in a position corresponding to the predetermined volume. As before the bin is supported on pressure responsive cells 19 which operate contacts bridging switch 16 when the measured volume falls below the predetermined weight thereby maintaining the gate 13 open. The pressure responsive cells may be of fluid pressure or electro magnetic devices.
