Abstract

849,494. Electric indicating systems. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Feb. 11, 1957 [Feb. 9, 1956], No. 4144/56. Class 40 (1). Apparatus for continuously comparing the pressure. between the two electrodes of welding apparatus and the current flow on a doublebeam cathode-ray oscilloscope comprises a capacitative pressure transducer 10 (Fig. 1) controlling the frequency of an oscillator 12 whose output is fed through a frequency discriminator 13 to one plate 16 of the C.R.O. 17. and a current transformer 18 feeding another plate 20 of the C.R.O., the sweep of the C.R.O. being controlled by a timebase unit 21. A valve voltmeter 14 is available for the initial setting-up of the apparatus. The pressure transducer comprises an insulating block 46 (Fig. 3) mounted inside a body 35, carrying one electrode 48 which is connected to an insulated terminal 37. The other electrode 50 is mechanically and electrically connected to an earthed metal insert 38 by screws 52. The electrode assembly is surrounded by a water jacket 42 for cooling.
