Abstract
1,044,006. Pulse generating circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 18, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 27844/62. Heading H3P. [Also in Division G4] In a pulse generating circuit for use in measuring the tracking properties of an electrical insulator 6, Fig. 1, by applying highvoltage pulses to an electrode pair 4, 5 until a conductive track becomes established on the surface of the insulator, a delay line L 1 , C 1 is charged from a 3 kv. A.C. source until it triggers a controlled spark gap G 2 (as described in Specification 861,740, which is referred to) which then applies 10 kv. from a charged capacitor C 3 across the electrodes 4, 5, thereby establishing an arc between them, and the arc is maintained by the energy in the delay line until it is discharged. Once the arc between electrodes 4, 5 breaks the delay line begins to charge again and the cycle is repeated. When a conductive path is established between electrodes 4, 5 a capacitor C 2 begins to charge and eventually establishes a spark at a gap G 1 which, via a relay contact NC, removes the 3 kv. source.
