Abstract

A mouldable composition comprises 50 to 99% by weight of a homopolymer of a 1-olefin of density at least 0,94 and a crystallinity of at least 75%, or a copolymer of a 1-olefin having a density of at least 0,92 and a crystallinity of at least 75%, and 1 to 50% by weight of a microcrystalline wax. The composition is preferably made by heating a mixture of the wax and polymer above the softening temperature of the polymer. The crystallinity is determined by nuclear magnetic resonance. The 1-olefin may be ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 1-pentene, 1-hexene, 1-octene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, 4-methyl-1-hexene, 4-ethyl-1-hexene, 6-methyl-1-heptene, or 5-methyl-1-heptene. The other component of the copolymer may be propylene, 1-butene, or 1-hexene. The 1-olefin polymers may be made either by supported metal oxide, or Zeigler techniques. The microcrystalline wax has generally a melting point between 130 DEG and 220 DEG F. The compositions may be made into films or fibres.
