Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions for oral and parenteral use comprise as active ingredient 2,2, 6,6-tetramethylpiperidine or an acid addition salt thereof, for example, the 8-chlorotheophyllinate, phosphate, nitrate, sulphate, maleate, fumarate, citrate, tartrate, methane sulphonate, ethane disulphonate, hydrohalide, e.g. the hydrochloride. The compositions may be in solid unit dosage form, e.g. tablets, capsules or powders comprising excipients and/or diluents, e.g. starch, lactose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, dextrin, sodium carboxymethylcellulose and at least 0,1% by weight of the active substance; and in liquid form, e.g. solutions, suspensions, syrups, elixirs and emulsions which may comprise at least 0,025% by weight of the active substance if for parenteral use or at least 0,1% if for oral use. Examples given are the preparation of a tablet comprising lactose, maize starch, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, stearic acid and 2,5 mg of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine hydrochloride, and sterile injectable aqueous solution comprising 0,25 g of the same substance and up to 100 ml distilled water.
