Abstract

849,355. Shearing. DEXION Ltd. Feb. 24, 1959 [Feb. 24, 1958], No. 5936/58. Class 83 (4). In a machine having a fixed blade 2 and a pivoted blade 5 operated by a lever 7 for shearing angle-sections, the lever is pivoted on the blade 5 and carries a knuckle pinion 9 meshing with an arcuate rack 10 on the machine-body 3, and the pitch circles of the pinion and rack are eccentric to the axes of rotation of the lever and blade 5 so that the mechanical advantage increases as cutting progresses. The angles formed by the cutting-edges 2a, 2b, 5a, 5b and a work-guide (Fig. 4, not shown) on the base 1 are similar to those described in Specification 696,582. The guide may have a lip 14 (Fig. 4) to retain the work, and the pivots 6, 8 for the blade and handle 5, 7 may be connected by a link on the side of body 3 opposite to that dished at 4 to receive blade 5. The blades may be re-ground and the wear taken up by shims.
