848,853. Step-by-step conveyers; endless conveyers. BOUTILLIER, A., and STEVENS, M. C. Jan. 14, 1958 [Jan. 14, 1957], No. 1304/57. Class 78 (1). In apparatus for moving workpieces horizontally from station to station and moving them vertically at a station, e.g. for immersion in liquids contained in a series of tanks, a workpiece carrier 8 is supported by a roller 12 running on a rail 13 and is mounted at the end of a trolley 3 between pairs of rollers 7 for vertical movement. Each trolley runs on rails 2 and is connected to adjacent trollies by links 6. There is a gap 13a in the rail 13 at each station which is bridged by a bracket 15 mounted on an auxiliary carrier 16. This bracket supports the roller 12 when the workpiece carrier is in a station. The carriers 16 move vertically between guide rollers and are supported by chains 18 connected to a horizontally movable track rod 20. The trollies are moved by the engagement of pawls 24 mounted on a reciprocating rod 25 with projections 26, 27.
