Abstract
848,372. Sight testing apparatus. BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO. Aug. 28, 1958 [Nov. 27, 1957], No. 27621/58. Class 97(1) Apparatus for examining the human eye comprises a slit and means for illuminating the slit and projecting the light on to the eye, including a light source with a heat transmitting concave mirror behind it arranged so as to form an image of the light source filament in the plane of and adjacent the actual filament. In the apparatus shown the eye is viewed through a microscope M and is illuminated by an optical system in a tube 15. The optical system comprises a light source 17 with a filament 18 placed near the centre of curvature of a heat transmitting mirror 24, e.g. a multilayer interference coating on a glass base, and which forms an image 18' of the filament (Fig. 3). Light from the source is focussed by a condensing lens system 21 placed 10-25mm from the filament on to an adjustable slit 20 and an image of the slit is projected into the patient's eye by a lens 22 and a prism 23.
