848,183. Flowmeters. FISCHER& PORTER CO. Nov. 14,1958 [May 23, 1958], No. 36783/58. Class 69 (1). A flowmeter of the variable area orifice type comprises a frame 10 carrying in spaced relationship a pair of fittings 2, 4 arranged for connection of the flowmeter to a conduit, a tube 56 interposed between the fittings 2, 4, a member in the tube movable under the action of fluid flow, a pair of adapters 22, 38 each operatively interposed between one of the fittings 2, 4 and an end portion of the tube 56, and having a portion 28 or 44 axially overlapping the latter, O-rings 26, 42 sealing the adapters 22, 38 to the fittings 2, 4 respectively, 0-rings 32, 48 sealing the portion 28, 44 of each adapter to the tube 56, at least one of the adapters 22, 38 being movable axially relatively to the frame 10 and the fittings 2, 4, and a spring 52 yieldably urging the adapters towards each other to effect mounting of the tube, the 0-rings 32, 48 permitting free axial movement of the tube 56 relative to the adapters 22, 38.
