Abstract

<PICT:0848125/III/1> In an automatic titration apparatus, the liquid to be tested is fed into a vessel 1 from which a standard volume is discharged at intervals through a siphon 2 to a collecting vessel 4. The discharge creates a vacuum which draws into the tube 3 a standard amount of titrating liquid from a Marriotte vessel 13 through a siphon 22. The collected liquid is then led into a dosimeter tank 27, and any change of colour estimated by photometer cell or by change in an electrical resistance. The test liquid is continuously fed into the vessel 1 from an overflow tank 5 through a restricted opening 8, whereby the amount of liquid entering vessel 1 during emptying may be disregarded. The restriction 8 is adjusted to a steady flow less than the discharge rate from the vessel 1. A number of Marriotte vessels may be employed each containing a different titrating solution, and discharge a standard volume thereof through individual siphons either simultaneously into the collecting vessel, or in cascade into a series of collecting vessels. In a modification, the collecting and dosimeter tanks are closed at the top and provided internally with a siphon tube. The dosimeter tank is preferably the same volume as the amount of titrating liquid.
