Abstract

848,046. Slicing-machines. POPEIL, S. J. Jan. 26, 1959 [Nov. 19, 1958], No. 2810/59. Class 5(1). A hand pusher 19 slides potatoes along a table 12 and against an interchangeable cutter blade 14 to produce corrugated or waffle like slices, shreddings or shoe-strings the thickness of the product being varied as wanted by tilting the table 23 in relation to the cutter 14 to vary the clearance gap. Rotation of a dial 15 rotates a crank rod 41, Fig. 6, whereby a cross-bar 32 is raised and lowered in slots 56 in the table to raise or lower the back end of the table, and also gives the table a small forward movement whereby its forward inclined slot 31, Fig. 7, rides on a fixed cross-bar 34 to raise or lower the front end of the table to or from the edge of the cutter. The blade 14 is held in place by a pair of J-shaped springs 66, Fig. 9, the upper leg 70 yieldingly pressing the blade 14. The springs 66 are received in a pocket 69 with rib 71 moulded in the body. A stop prevents the spring 66 from dropping out. To remove a blade the user pushes the rear edge of the the blade forward and up and lifts 66 out. A corrugated blade is stiffened by fingers 98, Fig. 18. To cut perforated waved slices the potato is hand turned through 90 degrees after each cut.
