847,934. Mine roof supports. BOCHUMER EISENHUTTE HEINTZMANN & CO., G.m.b.H. Nov. 15, 1956 [Nov. 16, 1955], No. 34991/56. Class 20(2) A mine roof support comprises a sled 2 on which are mounted hydraulic cylinders 3 and pistons 4, on the upper ends of which are detachably mounted pit props 5. A closed channel section roof bar 8 mounted on the props 5 has a longitudinally displaceable bar 9 which is clamped against the roof by wedges 11 sliding in U-shaped stirrups 10. The bar 8 may consist of a number of hinged sections. In operation, a pump 14 conveys pressure fluid from reservoirs 15, 16 (which may be dispensed with if water is used) into the cylinders 3. Inlet valves 13 and 17 and relief valves 19 and 20 are also provided. The sled 2 and attached long wall conveyer 21 may be advanced by windlass or hydraulic jack.
