Abstract

1,160,328. Control systems for mining apparatus. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. 13 June, 1967 [18 June, 1966], No. 27248/67. Heading E1P. A plurality of fluid pressure operated jacks 1 is used to urge the guide 20 of a mineral cutting machine (not shown) against a working face, and each jack 1 is extended in steps of predetermined magnitude by causing fluid supplied thereto or the fluid exhausted therefrom to be, expelled from, or received in, a cylinder 2 containing a floating .piston 5 the stroke of which is adjustable by a screwed spindle 8. As shown, fluid is supplied to the jack 1 from the cylinder 2 by operation of a valve 19, whereby fluid from a conduit 3 flows into one end of the cylinder 2 through a line 18, and fluid is expelled by the piston 5 through a line 17, a non-return valve 12 and a valve 16 to the jack 1. If the jack 1 is prevented from extending due to an obstruction, a relief valve 13 automatically operates. In the alternative arrangement, (Fig. 3, not shown), the fluid is expelled from the piston rod chamber of the jack and into the cylinder 2 by fluid supplied to the piston chamber of the jack.
