Abstract

847,879. Washing granular materials. KLOCKNER - HUMBOLDT - DEUTZ A. G. May 16, 1958 [May 16, 1957], No. 15821/58. Class 82(2) A sink and float apparatus using a heavy density separating liquid comprises a series of connected separating vessels 5, 6, 7, the ridges of the partitions between them being lower than the height of the adjustable floats discharge 4, sink outlets 16, 17 and 18 at the bottom of each vessel, a feed inlet 2 for the entry of the material to be separated plus some of the separating liquid, and inlet pipes 56, 57 and 58 which are adjustable in height for supplying to each vessel the separating liquid at a level below the ridges 8 and 9. The length L of the separating vessels should be at least 2 metres, the floats being screened on 11 and 13 and the sinks at 22 and 24. The heavy liquid washing slurry is pumped from funnels 12 and 23 to a collecting tank 33 and the screened out slurry from funnels 14 and 26 mixed with water from sprays 15 and 25 is concentrated in densifier 42 to the same specific gravity as the washing slurry and collected in 33. Sprays 15 and 25 are supplied with water from the densifier and the amount of heavy density liquid supplied to the separating vessels from tank 33 via 56, 57 and 58 may be adjusted to equal the amount withdrawn or the difference between the amount withdrawn and that supplied may be added with the material feed at inlet 2 via pipe 45.
