Abstract

The invention comprises inclusion compounds of urea and a per-derivative of a straight-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid. Suitable per-derivatives are mono percarboxylic acids, e.g. containing 4-20 carbon atoms; mono- or diper-acid derivatives of a , o -dicarboxylic acids, e.g. containing 10-20 carbon atoms; and acyl peroxides. These inclusion compounds may be produced by reacting urea and the per-derivative in a mutual solvent, such as methanol, and may be isolated by crystallisation or evaporation. The per-acid derivatives may be prepared by condensing boric acid and acetic anhydride to form acetyl pyroborate, treating with the carboxylic acid, and reacting the acyl perborate with hydrogen peroxide; the acyl perborates may also be prepared by reacting the acid anhydride or acid chloride with boric acid. Acyl peroxides may be prepared by reacting the per-acid with a carboxylic acid. The per-derivatives may contain hydroxy or keto groups or double bonds. The inclusion compounds of the invention are used in bleaching compositions and are stated to be strongly bactericidal. The Provisional Specification refers also to inclusion compounds of the per-acid derivatives with thiourea, selenourea and p tellurourea; this subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification.ALSO:The invention comprises bleaching and bleaching-detergent compositions containing an inclusion compound of urea and a per-derivative of a straight-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid. Suitable per-derivatives are monopercarboxylic acids, e.g. containing 4-20 carbon atoms; mono-or diper-acid derivatives of a , o -dicarboxylic acids, e.g. containing 10-20 carbon atoms; and acyl peroxides. The inclusion compounds are soluble in water and the solutions have bleaching activity. Preferably the bleaching compositions have an amount of inclusion compound which provides 0,05-10%, by weight of the composition, of active oxygen. When used in detergent compositions, these may contain soaps or organic soapless detergents, e.g. alkylaryl sulphonates, alkyl sulphates, fatty monoglyceride sulphates, salts of amides of taurine or methyltaurine, and salts of esters or ethers of isethionic acid. The compositions may also include alkalimetal carbonates, silicates, sulphates, phosphates, and other conventional ingredients of detergent compositions such as carboxymethyl cellulose, lather improvers, fluorescent brightening agents, anti-tarnishing agents and perfumes. Perborates and percarbonates may also be present. The compositions may be in the form of powders, chips, flakes, bars or tablets. In an example stained cotton is treated with bleaching-detergent compositions of the invention. The Provisional Specification refers also to inclusion compounds of per-acid derivatives with thiourea, selenourea and tellurourea.ALSO:Detergent compositions contain an inclusion compound of urea with a per-derivative of a straight - chain aliphatic carboxylic acid.
