Abstract
847,650. Screening apparatus. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. June 7, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956; Dec. 31, 1956], Nos. 18192/56 and 39719/56. Class 117 [Also in Group XXIII] Tumbling apparatus, Fig. 1 (Provisional Specification 18192/56) comprises two stacks of rotatable tubes 11 through which metal articles, together with chips of granite or other suitable material, pass in succession, being transferred from the first stack to the second by an elevator 12. The articles are then transferred by a second elevator 12 to a screening unit 13 for separation of the chips and articles. The screening unit, Fig. 3 (Provisional Specification 18192/56), comprises four screening tubes 17 formed from mild steel wire mesh coated with rubber or other abrasive-resistant material, a helical thread being bonded to the inside of the tubes. Material passes from one tube to the next through fixed shoots 20. Other shoots convey material passing through the screens to elevators 18, 19. Separation is assisted by vibrating the tubes by an electromagnetic A.C. contactless vibrator 21. In a modification, Fig. 6 (Provisional Specification 18192/56), the screening tubes 17 are formed from cylinders lined internally with abrasive-resistant material, a coarse thread being formed on the radiially inner surface of the lining and the screening apertures being provided in the base of the helical channel of the thread. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (Provisional Specification 39719/56), the screening tube comprises a rubber-lined slotted tube 117c within a rubber-lined slotted tube 117d. The width of the screening aperture is varied by relative rotational adjustment of the tubes. The inner tube may be provided with baffles.
