Abstract

847,514. Valves. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Feb. 1, 1957 [Feb. 1, 1956; June 7, 1956; Oct. 4, 1956], No. 3614/57. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXII] A non-return valve comprises a rubber or similar resilient sleeve-like closure member 1, Fig. 3, having a tapered lip portion 4, a cylindrical portion formed with beads 2, 3 and an external annular groove 6 between the portions. Normally the lip 4 with its own resilience engages the cylindrical core 13 of a valve seat element formed with radially extending webs 16 profiled to conform to the internal surface of the lip portion and a flange 12 between which and a shoulder 11 in the valve body 7 the cylindrical portion is clamped by means of a screw-threaded connector 8. On the pressure of the fluid flowing in the direction of the arrow 19 exceeding a predetermined value the lip hinges about the groove 6 to move away from the core 13, fluid passing through flow passages between the webs and the space between lip and the core. In a modification, the closure member includes a second lip 4a, Fig. 10, which is pressed into sealing engagement with the inner periphery of the valve body 7. An annular internal bead on the valve body engages between the beads 2, 3 to locate the closure member. The core 181 is formed with an axial passage terminating in an orifice 23 to allow limited flow in either direction and instead of profiled webs, on the valve seat element the internal surface of the closure member is fluted.
