Abstract

847,406. Wireless receiving apparatus. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Oct. 9, 1958 [Oct. 9, 1957], No. 31621/57. Class 40(5). A variable capacitor of the rotary vane type is combined with a switch operable at a predetermined setting of the capacitor, the switch comprising a contact mounted on the stationary part of the capacitor, and a complementary contact formed by, or operated by, the rotor vanes, or by an element carried on the vanes. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, contacts 2a and 2b are mounted on an insulated block 9 attached to the body of a two gang variable capacitor. When the capacitor is in its minimum capacitance position, the edges 1c and 1d of the rotor engage with the contacts 2a and 2b which are connected in the circuit wiring in such a manner that the capacitor is either shorted or by-passed by a fixed capacitor (Figs. 1 and 2 not shown). In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the capacitor rotor causes an auxiliary contact to deflect and engage with the contacts 2a and 2b.
