Abstract

846,918. Turbine and compressor stator blading. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Dec. 24, 1957 [Jan. 11, 1957], No. 1137/57. Class 110 (3). In an elastic-fluid axialflow compressor or turbine having at least one row of stator blades mounted in the casing, a segmented blade-tip shroud ring is provided, each shroud ring segment being secured to the radially inner ends of stator blades of the blade row, the adjacent ends of neighbouring shroud ring segments being rigidly secured together by bridge-pieces so as to form an unbroken ring. In the compressor shown, the stator casing 6 is formed in two semi-circular halves 6a, 6b, each half carrying blades 7 by means of shroud ring portions 8, the radially inner ends of the blades being secured to semi-circular shroud ring segments 9a, 9b of channel-section. The abutting ends of each pair of shroud ring segments are rigidly held together by means of a coupling-device 10. In Figs. 3 and 4, the coupling-device comprises a pair of wedge members 11, secured one to each of the adjacent ends of the shroud ring segments 9a, 9b and a bridge member 12 which is shaped to engage over the two wedge members 11 when in their abutting positions. The abutting faces of the wedge members are recessed at 11a, 11b to receive two screwed bolts 13 which upon assembly are engaged in screwed holes 12b in the bridge member 12. Tongue portions 11d are formed on the inclined faces of the wedge members and are received in grooves 12a in the bridge member. In a further embodiment, the wedge portions have curved faces and the bridge member is correspondingly shaped. In a further embodiment, the wedge members are in the form of half frusto-conical members and the bridge member is a frusto-conical ring, a single bolt being used for securing the parts together.
