Abstract
846,595. Detecting vibrations. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and ARNOLD, G. H. Dec. 4, 1958 [Dec. 4, 1957], No. 37762/57. Class 106 (4). A seismic transducer 15 for supplying electric signals in dependence upon mechanical vibrations transmitted through a surface is held in contact therewith by mounting the transducer in a portable framework 3, 4, 21, which may then be placed upon the surface in such a way that the feeler 17 of the transducer is in contact with the surface, the framework also being arranged to carry a reel or drum of electric cable for connecting the transducer to an amplifier. The portable reel arrangement of Specification 840,530 (see Group XXVIII) is used for paying out the cable from the amplifier to the surface transmitting the vibrations to be detected, the transducer 15 is slipped into position between two cross-bars 21 and the handle 6 to abut against a plate 19, the framework is laid on its side with the feeler 17 downwards and the terminal connected to the inner end of the cable upwards, so that the lead 18 of the transducer can be readily inserted.
